As a full scholarship student, I received my BA from the Department of Political Science of Bilkent University (Ankara, Turkey) in 2002. I got my PhD from the Department of Political Science of University of Pittsburgh in 2007. Since 2008, I have been working at the Department of Political Science of Bilkent University. My research interests include ethnicity, ethnonationalism, ethnic conflict, civil-military relations, institutional theory (e.g. path dependence, informal institutions), Kurdish ethnopolitics and Turkish politics. I have published articles in such journals as European Political Science Review, European Journal of International Relations, Ethnic and Racial Studies, South European Society and Politics, Armed Forces & Society, Nations and Nationalism, Mediterranean Politics and Turkish Studies. I have received scholarships, grants and awards from various institutions such as Fulbright, TUBITAK (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey), and Science Academy (Turkey). I spent 2014-2015 academic year at Princeton University as Fulbright Visiting Scholar.
I am also the author of “Ethnic Boundaries in Turkish Politics: The Secular Kurdish Movement and Islam” (New York: New York University Press, 2018).
