Born 1972 in Middlesbrough, England. Read the Historical Tripos at Trinity College, Cambridge University, receiving a B.A. in History in 1994, an M.Phil in Political Thought and Intellectual History in 1995, and a Ph.D. in History (on the political thought of George Bernard Shaw) in 2000. The thesis was later published as a book, Shawâ€™s Controversial Socialism (University Press of Florida, 2009). A post-doctoral appointment at Kingâ€™s College, 2000-03, led eventually to the private publication of a book, E.F. Bulmer: A Life (London: Cooke and Bulmer, 2009). Appointed fixed-term lecturer in the Department of Politics, Cambridge University, 2003-04. Appointed Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science, Bilkent University, 2004.
